Did you know that in the USA in August 2013 Labor Statistics reported that there were 7.6 million people working part-time jobs due to economic reasons. Of the those 7.6 million workers 17% (1.3million) were between ages 20 and 24. Most of the growth in part-time workers has been because of slack business conditions or an inability to find a full time job. In 2014 August, Canada continued to bleed full time jobs while part-time work rushed to fill the void. Also eight-teen thousand full time jobs were lost in July 2014. Part time jobs in Canada have become the new normal for millions of Canadians, a normal, where hours fluctuate, benefits are virtually non existent and the pay is generally lower. The trend toward lower paying, less stable work has been on the rise for more than a quarter century. Each recession has also eliminated more full time jobs than have been replaced with subsequent recoveries. The damage caused to full time employment was in many way permanent.
